the Doha Rugby Union FC website.
The Club was formed in 1974 and named the Qatar Rugby Union Football Club, but the name was changed recently for political reasons.
For the first two years, games were played on the West Bay, where a graded sand pitch was the venue for our home ground. After a game, Qatar players would take visiting players back to their individual residences for a shower and then on to our then referee, Gordon Palmer's house for drinks and food. Sometimes visiting teams would stay overnight and were hosted by home players.
In 1976 a new Club House was built, off the Salwa Road, which has been the head quarters of the Club ever since. We played on graded desert and sand, until 1994 when the pitch was grassed, which is now known as the best playing pitch in the Gulf.
The Doha Rugby Union FC proudly boasts 150 Mini Rugby players, an Under Sixteen's Side, a First XV, a Second XV at home, an excellent Vets Team, a Gulf recognized Colts Side and two Ladies Teams who have mushroomed to brilliance in the last two years by winning the Gulf Cup, the Gulf League and twice successive winners of the Dubai International Sevens, ending with an unbeaten record.
Our Social Members and supporters are second to none, as many as 700 have supported local matches, with 250 travelling to the Dubai International Sevens to encourage Doha Teams. We can be recognized at the Dubai Sevens in the Doha Stand.
